Boom
The force of the explosion would have knocked him off balance, if he hadn't already been on his knees, instead he was placed perfectly to look on to the ensuing chaos. He saw the whole field, the earth and airbender trying to deal with Zula, Zuka on the ground, and the Hand member coming to kill him. Though most importantly, he noticed the Jaya was staying out of the fray, clearly while she was alive, she still wasn't fully herself. Interesting, but not really the point right now.
He had to get to Zuka and get away, all he had done up to this point was to get to here, create enoug chaos that there was some opportunity to go with it, and he saw it, though the timing had to be just right. His mind flashed back to his first earthbending teachers and about waiting for just the right moment. This was that moment
He subtly wrapped his shoes in earthen boots and then took a breath
....and go. He thought as he sprung up, moving quickly.
The first was the Hand goon coming to kill him, he mentally unwrapped one of the metal coils that had been digging into his arm and it slid down and opened the small pouch of sand. He thrust one hand out and let a small cloud of sand fly into the goons eyes and he gasped, and then Kenji wrapped the coil around his other hand forming like brass knuckles as he threw out a punch to the blinded goon, connecting with jaw and bringing him down.
He kept moving, his speed amplified by the earthen shoes as he made a beeline to Zuka.
He saw Oku coming close and tossed the last of the sand and bent it toward the resolute general, distracting him with a cloud of sand, as he then tossed the two coils out as in a two quick movements, the first coil wrapped around Oku's throat and the second around his legs, bringing him down for now, as Kenji kept moving grabbing up Zuka, and turning back around.
Now for the hard part.
He began moving again.
As he headed straight towards Jaya, moving full speed, and as he got closer, for a moment he locked eyes with her. He saw her gaze, ice cold, the only warmth coming from the blazing hatred flashing in her eyes, and as he held that gaze...
He winked.
Then with a small motion, made a small ramp as he took off from it at full speed, and vaulted up over Jaya, and landing right on top of the next boulder her Earthbender was sending out to try and hit Zula. Kenji saw his eyes widen as he realized that his weapon now had two passengers, but he was so distracted by Zula, he already made the motion sending the boulder, flying up and out toward Zula.
Once they got closer, Kenji flipped off the boulder sending it crashing in the distance as he landed hard on the ground. If he hadn't had the Earthen boots his legs would have probably been broken, but for now they just hurt...a lot, but he could still move.
A massive part of his wanted to throw another taunt at Jaya, but the smarter part of him clamped down on that instinct. He had managed to turn certain death to a draw, but it meant nothing if they couldn't escape this kill box.
So he turned to Zula and quickly "Time to leave." as he turned and ran toward the car, hoping that Zula had saved an explosive or two to cover their escape.
