If he wanted excitement, Republic City was the way to go. Of course, not all of the excitement was ever good, nor was it actually something that Neva looked forward to. What she'd learned was to always be prepared for anything, as the city had its own brand of bad luck and danger that newcomers weren't always aware of before they arrived. Neva tried to look at the positives of the city, but even she had to admit that wasn't easy sometimes.
She looked over as the hostess approached them, and then thanked Teo and nodded with a smile, "Let's go."
Neva followed him out and to the park, making light conversation on the way. As they walked she kept an eye open for a good spot for them to sit. Although there were plenty of people still out and about in the city, the park was a little quieter. They made their way through and Neva pointed to an empty bench situated underneath a rather large tree. "How's that?"
She waited for his confirmation and then went over and took a seat on the bench. "Better than sitting in a crowded restaurant, I think."

'Perfect" Teo followed her to the bench and set the bag down, opening it and passing out the containers to their respective person. Once the food was handed out Teo picked up his and opened it, turning slightly so his back was to the arm rest and bringing his leg to make sitting sideways more comfortable. "So, what does your family think of you being here?" He asked after a few minutes to give her time to eat a little. Teo knew his family had not been happy with his decision to move. His mother fussed and fussed while his dad and brothers always tried to scare him out of it but in the end it was his decision and Teo left regardless.

Neva was happy to dig into the food, and Teo was right: it was delicious. She turned to face him more, crossing one leg over the other, and looked up when he asked her his question. It was a question that kind of amused her, only because she knew the reaction it had caused when she'd sent the first letter back home. "Actually, they didn't know I was in the city until I already settled here. They thought I was visiting the Southern Water Tribe."
She took another bite and then added as an afterthought, "Which I did go to, but I left."
It wasn't like Neva had lied to anyone. She just didn't send a letter when she decided to go to Republic City so that no one could stop her. And she'd informed them after, so she hadn't kept them in the dark forever. Just long enough that she could move where she wanted without the drama of returning to the place her family had such an aversion to.
Neva continued, "They really don't like the city. I think if they couldn't have me home, they'd want me anywhere but here."

Teo snorted a little when she said her parents didn't know she was in the city until it was too late. 'Well, that's one way to do it I guess." If Teo had done something like that he was sure that his mother would personally come to the city and drag him back by his ear. "Im surprised they didn't come and drag you back kicking and screaming"
He took a few more bites "I can't really blame them though, I don't think any parent would be happy once they heard their kid wanted to come to Republic City. I mean, with the Equalist, the spirits and the Triads..and now these masked people running around theres a lot to worry about."

"Honestly, me too," Neva said. When she'd moved to the city on her own, she was half expecting her parents to immediately make the trek to bring her back. She didn't think they'd let her stay, even though she was willing to do what it took to make sure she could live n her own. If things had been better at home at the time, then maybe they would have come to collect her. But things had already been so tense that she suspected they knew that the best thing to do was to let her stay. She'd left the Northern Water Tribe to get away, after all. Republic City just put more distance between all the issues she didn't want to deal with. "I think they knew at that point it was better to see if I would give up first and come back."
She nodded as he spoke. Teo wasn't wrong; Republic City came with a lot of baggage that even all its advancements and culture couldn't hide. It had a reputation that spoke volumes. "It was the last place I'm sure they thought I would go. And it is dangerous here. I just reassure them that I'm staying out of trouble. Which, they don't really have grounds to question that, at least."
Luckily all of her years of being the responsible one had paid off. Her parents knew she had an ache for adventure, which she assumed made them worry even more. For the most part, Neva stayed out of anything that crazy (in Republic City's terms of crazy), but she definitely found her way into it little by little. That was for her to be concerned with though. What they didn't know wouldn't hurt them, right?
"And I know it's kind of naive to say for a young girl in a city like this, but I really am okay. It's crazy, yes, but I don't know...I've always had an adventurous streak." She laughed a little, taking a few more bites. Neva was far from really stepping into the dark side of the city, but there was nothing wrong with dancing around it.
