He chuckled at her words catching the hidden meaning, but not making noise about it. They sat in silence for a while as Kenji was, much to his chagrin, unsure of his next move. He'd be lying if he didn't say that he didn't have several other questions all bursting on the tip of his tongue like Fire Nation fireworks. He had several ready to go, despite himself he could feel old rhythms returning, and that was the trap. He had been careful when he constructed this new life for himself, it was a well constructed layer of half truths, rumor, and deception. However it was a house of cards, one that would topple if the wrong person got wise.
..and as much as he wanted to trust Zuka he knew that the side of the law she operated on made her the wrong person. However he also knew that if they kept this up she would figure it out eventually and that would be bad. It was trap and there were very few ways to avoid it.
So he knew what he had to do.
He then smirked and casually flicked his finger as it sent the shot glass toppling into the tumbler as he then raised the glass and downed it in a swift swig. The taste was not pleasant but it helped wash away the bad taste in his mouth. He was not arrogant enough to say he always won the games he started, but at least when he lost it was because someone else played it better. However the only way to deal with this was to walk away, rather than take the risk.
He faked a smile as he said " As fun as catching up is, some of us have to work for a living and my day isn't done yet." He rose up and then gave a brief nod "but we should do this again some time, see you around Zuka."
He then made his way to the door, grabbing his hat from the girl and then making his way out. As his feet hit the pavement, he let out a breath as he let whatever feelings he had go. After all he wasn't lying...he really did have work to do.
